A WORD TO THE VISITOR |
We welcome you as you enter the ALKA -a virtual exhibition on a millennium of Lithuanian cultural heritage. This virtual exhibition consists of 24 exhibits that are linked, classified, and briefly introduced on this main site. Each exhibit was selected from competition entries created by various project groups according to themes suggested by the commission of the virtual exhibition on a millennium of Lithuanian cultural heritage: The Balts, The State, Society, Folk Culture, etc. This site representing whole virtual exhibition will help you, our visitor, conveniently and quickly find the part of the Lithuanian cultural heritage that interests you, or if you want, it will guide you through the entire virtual exhibition.
This our site is like a foyer in which you can learn about the structure of a huge multi-themed exhibition, find brief introductions to individual exhibits, and ask about whatever interests you. In addition, you can follow your own preferences while touring this virtual exhibition by selecting the signs in the
foyer:
What these signs mean:
- a short visit, during which you will become acquainted with a brief introduction to the exhibit you have selected and find several pictures and a list of the most interesting items in the exhibit. Usually this material fits on one page and is maintained by the creators of the virtual exhibition ALKA.
- a tour of the entire exhibition, during which the viewer sees and hears everything: texts, pictures, and audio recordings. The exhibition consists of web pages of greater or lesser scope maintained by specific work groups.
- for connoisseurs absolutely everything in the exhibition is available. They are permitted, as it were, to "visit" the storage rooms of the museum and see all the additional material which is not usually shown during excursions. Such an exhaustive presentation of material can be found in only two web pages of the virtual exhibition.
Each individual exhibit has its own theme. Each theme has its own color and is marked by a triangle of that color.

The names of all the exhibits on each theme are given only in the foyer of the exhibition, but if you have accessed the short introduction to an exhibit or another website connected to the main page, you will find the names of all the exhibits on some particular theme by holding the cursor of your mouse on the triangle of the appropriate theme. For example, if you move the cursor of your mouse onto the symbol for Art, you will see a list from which you can access the short introduction to any exhibit on that theme.

If you want to systematically look over the short introductions to all the exhibits, use the Exhibition Catalog, which can be found on the web page of each short introduction.
